Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Cloud DevOps/SysOps Engineer to join our Cloud Transformation programme and help us to achieve our Cloud Migration and Cloud Enablement goals.

The ideal candidate will have 4-5 years hands-on experience of building, migrating and troubleshooting server-based solutions into AWS using high levels of automation and configuration management.

The primary focus of the migration program is based on EC2, RDS, Networking and operating systems (Windows, Linux). Skills in these areas are essential. Familiarity of AWS security-based services, configuration management and governance are also desirable. Strong depth of knowledge of Windows Server 2016 and above along with related services (Terminal Servers, Printing, Active Directory) is required. Strong Linux skills are also very desirable with experience of Oracle Linux being a bonus. Strong skills with Terraform, Ansible and GitHub (or similar tooling) at scale are a requirement of this role.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of customer experience and be able to coach and develop both junior cloud ops engineers and engineers transferring into cloud operations from other roles.

Responsibilities:

• Analyse datacentre-based workloads and work with existing architecture, security and engineering teams to create patterns/blueprints to migrate those workloads into AWS at pace with minimal disruption to customers.
• Build implement AWS infrastructure using Terraform executed via CI/CD tooling.
• Create/support automated build and installation of application stacks onto AWS based servers via Ansible.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test and deployment processes using GitHub Enterprise.
• Monitor and troubleshoot AWS infrastructure, network, and application issues post migration.
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to improve the software development lifecycle and increase efficiency and reliability.
• Contribute to ongoing process improvement and implement best practices for cloud and DevOps operations.
• Closely collaborate with the Cloud Centre of Excellence in ongoing cost, process and architecture improvement.
• Support other teams in ongoing upskilling and cross-skilling into AWS with documentation, knowledge transfer, demonstrations and focussed training.

Requirements:

• 4-5 years of hands-on experience in DevOps/Sysops, Cloud Operations or cloud engineering.
• Strong experience with AWS services, focussed around RDS, EC2, S3, and networking along with adjacent services (EBS, Security groups etc…)
• Strong experience of Windows Server (2016 and above) and Linux based OS (ideally in RHEL or derivatives, Oracle Linux is a bonus)
• Strong experience of Terraform and Ansible.
• Familiarity with network and security protocols, such as TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL/TLS, and SSH.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools. GitHub Enterprise is desirable but other equivalent tools are valid.
• Knowledge of Bash, Python and/or Powershell is desirable.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• AWS certifications, such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or AWS Certified Developer, are a plus.
